Connect an AI agent to your maps
Connect to the Metamaps MCP server to let an AI agent read and edit spots, events, and current congestion values. The ChatGPT and Claude plugins are for operator workflows; visitor answer generation is available only to service-to-service machine connections on maps with AI chat enabled.
Connection and authentication
All maps use the same MCP endpoint. It uses Streamable HTTP, and user-authorized connections authenticate with OAuth.
https://metamaps.jp/mcpWhen connecting, sign in to Metamaps and choose the maps and permissions on the consent screen: read, create/update, and delete. The permissions you can grant are limited by your existing Metamaps role.

Set up a coding agent
For Codex or Claude Code, send the following setup prompt to your agent. The connection commands are maintained in the official setup instructions.
Fetch and execute the appropriate instructions to set me up for Metamaps from https://metamaps.jp/agent-setup/prompt.mdAfter connecting, call list_maps first. Use the returned map value for all subsequent tools. Do not substitute the slug from the public map URL.

The tools listed for a connection depend on its granted permissions. Tools that change or delete existing records also require map_title: pass the exact map title returned by list_maps so the approval screen identifies the target map.

List the maps available to this connection.
Find the target map and check the opening hours of the specified store.
If an update is needed, show me the store, map, and proposed change.Read the current record before updating it. Use the tool descriptions and schemas returned by the server to determine which operations are allowed and which fields are required.
Service-to-service connections
To let another AI service read a map's public POIs and knowledge, use the public read-only machine connection configured in the admin console. Its credentials and permissions differ from user-authorized OAuth connections. Never publish a machine connection token in a web page or sample.
The ask tool generates visitor answers only through this machine connection, when the map's AI agent is enabled. It is excluded from OAuth plugins for both ChatGPT and Claude.
